By now, many of you may have heard of the passing of our beloved classmate, Elaine Pascal Wynn. I never did have the opportunity to get to know Elaine on a personal level. Never had any classes with her or spoke with her. As most of us may remember, Elaine was just an all around special person. She was a thespian and a cheerleader and a very smart beautiful young lady (she was our class high school queen). I remember Elaine attending our 40th high school reunion with her husband, Steve Wynn. She got up with the rest of our fantastic cheerleaders and performed our high school cheer. I also remember Elaine taking her husband's hand and leading him to the dance floor. (Steve had an eye disease and was almost blind) When it was time for our 50th reunion, we compiled and assembled a glossy reunion book and invited all classmates to send in their own personal biography. Elaine submitted hers and it was approximately 4 pages long describing her life long achievements and honors. I wrote her back with an edited version of her biography and asked her if the shortened version was ok and she was happy with it. Elaine said she would not be able to attend the reunion as she had travel plans with her family. She has received many honors related to her dedication to public education and said that the dedication to the Elaine Wynn Elementary School was one of her proudest.
Elaine was also a very savvy and smart business woman and together with her husband turned Las Vegas from a gambling town into a family friendly resort. They built and owned several of the most beautiful hotels in Vegas. Elaine lived an honorable and charitable life and our Class of 1960 can be so proud of all she accomplished. She is survived by two daughters and seven grandchildren. She will be Dear Classmates,

Thank you for the information about Elaine . Again we need to do 1 more reunion before no one cares anymore. When is the 100 anniversary? I look at us as being the representatives of the golden age of Miami Beach . Our offspring could care less. Our story needs to be kept alive as long as we can. Peter

Totally agree. She was in my homeroom so I got to know her. She was nice to everyone.

Even the most gifted , wealthy, and beautiful of us pass away. Elaine was the intimidating, inaccessible dream of almost every boy in the class. At the 20th reunion she appeared already as a celebrity. Still, I asked her for a dance, which she graciously accepted. She was actually human that night, dispelling the past high school fears and inhibitions of a 17 year old classmate. Partially it was being 37 and a mature man. But partially it was warmly chatting with a lovely woman, no longer an ethereal girl fantasy creature, but one who was kind and real.
Rest in peace Elaine.
